How it all started

Story Club began in the spring of 2021 with one woman, one well-worn copy of Pride and Prejudice, and a corner table at The Reading Nook Café. Margot Ellison had just moved to town and was craving two things: a reason to read more, and someone to talk to about it. So she printed a handful of flyers, pinned them to the café’s community board, and hoped at least one person would show up. Three did, and that first meeting, which was supposed to last an hour, lasted three.

Margot kept showing up every week, and so did everyone else. Friends brought friends, coworkers brought neighbors, and before long that little corner table had turned into the whole back room. Today, Story Club is a welcoming community of women from all walks of life who share a love of good books and great conversation. We’ve read romances and mysteries, cried over tragedies, argued about endings, and celebrated birthdays, new jobs, and new babies along the way. It all started with one woman and one flyer, and the friendships are what keep us coming back.

"I moved to town not knowing a single person. A coworker dragged me to a Story Club meeting, and two years later, these women are the first people I call with good news."
